The President of Rotary International for the year 2019-20, President Mark Daniel Maloney, has chosen the theme of the ‘Rotary connects the world’ to be the thrust of our humanitarian efforts for the year. Through the multitude of Rotary Clubs like Bunga, he seeks to;

  1. Connect leaders (by achieving a net gain of > 5 members)
  2. Connect families (by organizing family oriented service projects)
  3. Connect professionally (seeking ways of enhancing member skills)
  4. Connecting with the communities we serve.

As Rotary club of Bunga, we are beginning this Rotary Year with new energies focused on the following goals which are meant to echo the goals as targeted by our District Governor, DG Xavier Sentamu:

  • Strengthening our Club
  • Increasing our effort in delivering humanitarian services and
  • Promoting the Public Image of our Rotary Club in line with the Goals of the 5 Year Strategic Plan 2018-2023 of our District 9211.

Fellow Rotarians, one of the indicators of a strong club is the solid membership base which is well diversified in terms of gender, age and professionalism. We shall target growing the number of our members from the current 45 to 55 members.

We would like to improve the leadership skills of our members through increased number of Rotarians attending the Rotary Service Delivery and Leadership Training. This strategy, we believe, will prepare members of Rotary Club of Bunga to serve beyond the Club.

Internally, we intend to work towards ensuring that the majority of the Club Members are in position to comfortably use Club Runner and Rotary Club Central.

We shall grow the spirit of member participation in Club activities using a participant-centered approach to ensure we deliver value we all cherish.

We plan to conduct strong fellowships through invitation of knowledgeable speakers to ensure Club members are always learning inspiring things as this will be one of the major attraction of our Club to keep members interested.

Lastly, we shall ensure that we hold fun filled fellowship and swallow ships.

As Rotarians, one of the major calling is to serve humanity. We are planning to identify an area where we shall undertake a community assessment to form a basis for the application of global grants to address the community needs. We intend to focus on small grants as part of the strategy to grow our members’ capacity to develop, prepare bigger and bolder grants in the near future.

Our effort will not only be focused on utilization of global grants but it will also go to sharpening the members’ appetite towards giving to Rotary Foundation. We target contributing One thousand US dollars to the Rotary Foundation prioritizing polio plus among others.

The Rotary Club of Bunga also plans to develop partnerships under which we shall be implementing joint projects with other Rotary clubs or partners in service like Rotaracts or Interact clubs. This is one other avenue we plan to use to strengthen partnerships with and engage the youth.

Furthermore, it is our desire to develop humanitarian service projects that are sustainable. This will among others be accomplished through identification of corporate sponsorships that may be able to support club projects.

These efforts will only be appreciated if they are built around a strong brand. In this regard, the Rotary Club of Bunga will ensure that whatever is done gets to be known. We shall build a strong brand that shares publicly the stories of all our accomplishments as part of the strategy to build a strong public image of Rotary. Our efforts will be centered around communicating on our website www.rotaryclubofbunga.org, our social media accounts on facebook and twitter, our whatsapp groups and active participation in joint rotary groups and activities.

In whatever we do, we shall constantly evaluate our effort with a long-term objective of measuring the impact of our efforts in the community.

As I conclude, I must express my gratitude to God the giver of life. IPP Rtn George Makumbi, our mother club Muyenga R.C. thank you for the unwavering support and guidance you have accorded to the Rotary Club of Bunga.

I would like to thank the Chairman of the installation committee Rtn Paul Luyima and all the members of the committee for a job well done. To all other members of the club, thank you for the hard work, persistence and tireless efforts.

I also would like to thank my family, particularly my wife Rtn. Mayanja Teopista Birungi who despite being physically far from me, has given tremendous support to my Rotary venture.

To my sisters from the famous Kadaali family, we are thankful for the support during the printing of our installation magazine. Thanks also go to our parish priest Rev Fr Charles Sengendo who offered to give us this venue free of charge.

Finally I wish to call upon all individual members of the Club to show up always and to defend their Rotary membership through commitment and individual contributions. I would also like to reiterate that as a club we need to embrace the spirit of togetherness if we are to meet our common goals of helping humanity.

Personally I make a commitment to serve above self at all times. Yes, fellow Rotarians together we can and will build a vibrant and service oriented club making a difference in the society.
